Wyatt Earp became the assistant city marshal of Dodge City in 1876. His time in Dodge City was significant as it helped establish his reputation as a lawman in the American West. Earp's experiences there would later influence his actions and persona during the infamous gunfight at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona.
