He was Henry McCarty, born 0n 18 januaryNovember 1859 in New York City who became famous as as a Wild West gunfighter and outlaw only after his death at the age of 21 on 14 July 1881 at the hand of Sheriff Pat Garrett in New Mexico. Garrett wrote about him and gave Hollywood a chance to make him a classic immortal. Billy was also known as Henry Antrim and William H. Bonney during his life as a Regulator during the range war known as the Lincoln County War. He has been portrayed as a misunderstood youth in films, both colorful and charming, when in truth he was really a callous murderer.
