The first president of free Poland, following the end of World War I and the establishment of the Second Polish Republic, was Gabriel Narutowicz. What some people don't know is that while Germany invaded Poland from the west, Russia invaded Poland from the east. At the end of the war there was an agreement made during the Yalta conference that permitted the Soviet Union to acquire the eastern territory of Poland while some German territories were added to the Polish Republic.
