The Romans conquered Greece in Greece itself. The conquest of mainland Greece occurred in 146 BC. In 146 BC they defeated Macedon (the largest state which covered about 1/3 of Greece) in the fourth Macedonian War. In 146 BC they annexed it to their empire. In the same year the Achaean league, an alliance of city-states in the Peloponnese Peninsula in southern Greece rose against the Romans and were defeated. As a result, the rest of Greece was also annexed.
