When the US flag is properly folded what shape it it?

Answer 1

There is no official meaning to the folds of the flag. It provides a dignified ceremonial touch that distinguishes folding a flag from folding an ordinary object such as a bedsheet and because it results in a visually pleasing, easy to handle shape.

Many variations of folding ceremonies and specific meanings assigned to the thirteen folds in the process were adopted by different patriotic and religious interests but have no bearing on the reason for the folding of the flag.

Answer 2

The normal way of folding the flag is to fold it in half lengthwise, then do so again leaving the blue canton out. Then, starting at the fly end, fold a triangular flap upward and repeat this process until you run out of flag. Tuck the last fold inside the larger bit.

At this point, the folded flag will be triangular with the blue field of the canton and the white stars showing. No red should show at all.
