When the Union Army was defeated by the Confederate Army the thought of a quick war was quickly dispelled by all, because the "Rebels" had defeated the all mighty Union. People thought that the war would be over in 2 months, but the fact that the Confederate stood up for themselves and defeated a much larger, and more powerful army showed that they weren't going down without a fight.
