People in 17 hundreds would have discovered these things sailing around the world thinking this is exiting but now we don't even say woo hoo. People in Egypt would have known about the Egyptian pyramids all along; they are rather hard to miss. They weren't completely buried in desert sand. Some other pyramid-like structures in Central America or Asia might have been more difficult to detect because of heavy forest cover or general erosion. Usually archeologists get around to exploring unusual hills and other formations to see what might be hiding there.
