Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo was a Portuguese explorer who lived in the early 16th century. He spent much of his later life in Spain, specifically in the region of Andalusia, before embarking on his expedition to the west coast of North America. Cabrillo is often associated with the Spanish colony in New Spain (modern-day Mexico) during his explorations. His most notable voyage was to what is now California, where he became the first European to navigate the coast.
