"Civilization" as defined by Anthropologists first emerged probably in the late 'Ubaid or during the Uruk period in Mesopotamia. There are several contemporary suggestions, such as certain periods in China's history as well as in Egypt, but I believe the answer your teacher is looking for is Mesopotamia.

I'd kind of like to hear the teachers answer and argument as to why they believe that is true and what THEIR research is. I'm taking a class about civilization for college.

I'm actually procrastinating on writing a paper about it even!
