Cuba. The reason the USSR put missiles there was to get rid of the U.S. Jupiter missiles in Turkey. Both were removed.
Because the soviets were the ones to put the missiles in Cuba. Which made the U.S. put missiles in Turkey ending this crisis.
The Soviet Union
It was a direct threat to the United States - and a power move to show they could place missles within 90 miles of their border. There are actually 5 possible reasons:1. To Bargain With The USA-Krushchev may have put them there so that he had something against the USA and good agree on removing them in return for some American concessions.2. To Test The USA-The missiles could have been put there to see how string the Americans really were, whether they would back off or face up. The USSR may have wanted to test out Kennedy3. To Trap The USA-The missiles could've been a trap and Krushchev may have wanted the Americans to find them and be drawn into a nuclear war. He didn't even try to hide them.4. To Defend Cuba-The missiles could have been their to genuinely defend Cuba5. To Get The Upper Hand In The Arms Race-The missiles were put there so that the Soviet Union was at least level with the USA in the Arms Race. With their missiles in Cuba and America's missiles in Turkey, it was less likely the USA would ever launch a 'first strike' against the USSR.
Firstly, because the Castro revolutionaries brought Cuba from the US sphere of influence into the Soviet sphere of influence. Secondly, because it had agreed to serve as a base and launching pad for Soviet atomic missiles aimed at the US.

The United States, under JFK, ordered the Soviet Union, who first put them there, to take them out immediately. They then prepared for an Army invasion of Cuba in case they had to take the missiles out by force. When a blockade by the United States was put into action to prevent more missiles coming into Cuba, the Soviet Union took the missiles back as long as the United States agreed to have nothing ever to do with Cuba. This is why all relations to Cuba were cut off by the United States.
The Cuban missile crisis, where the Soviet Union put missiles in Cuba.
The U.S. placed missiles in Turkey during the Cold War primarily as a strategic response to the Soviet Union's growing influence and military capabilities, particularly after the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. The deployment of Jupiter missiles in Turkey aimed to enhance NATO's defense posture and deter Soviet aggression in Europe. This decision was also part of a broader strategy to reassure U.S. allies and demonstrate American commitment to collective security. Ultimately, the missiles in Turkey were part of a complex geopolitical landscape marked by tensions between superpowers.
Nikita Kruchev
To understand that we need to understand the Cold War as much as it can be understood. The USA and its Allies Against The Soviet Union and its Allies like Cuba. The whole Cold War was based on the idea of a deterrent called "Mutually Assured Destruction" With the entirely appropriate acronym of "MAD".The USA had used their influence and Allies to place Medium and Short Range Nuclear Missiles in Europe targeting the Soviet Block Countries. The Soviet Union had no equivalent Deterrent targeting Mainland USA.Cuba wanted to be supportive of their Friends in Communist Soviet Union and as they were very unhappy with the USA and the embargo that had harmed their Economy. So these factors lead to the placement of Soviet medium range Missiles in Cuba and the Cuban Missile crises .
In 1962, America placed missiles in Turkey as part of its strategic response during the Cold War, particularly in relation to the Soviet Union's missile deployment in Cuba. This move was a significant factor in the Cuban Missile Crisis, which heightened tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union. The crisis ultimately led to a negotiation where both superpowers agreed to remove their missiles from Turkey and Cuba, respectively.
President Kennedy demanded that the Soviet Union remove the missile base from Cuba. He also ordered a US air and naval blockade of Cuba to prevent Soviet arms shipments from reaching Cuba. He prepared to invade Cuba in case Khrushchev did not withdraw his missiles. He made an agreement with Khrushchev at the last minute: Khrushchev agreed to remove the missiles from Cuba, ordered his ships to turn back to Soviet Union; Kennedy promised not to put missiles in Turkey, near the Soviet border. After this agreement Kennedy lifted the blockade and promised not to invade Cuba.
Russia. The Russian government put missiles in Cuba and that is why we had the Cuban missile crisis. Even today Russian military ships dock in Cuba.
