Wrong. The last name Copeland comes from Scotland and Northern England. It's a habitational name comming from the location of "Copeland", Cumbria.

This is also closely related, and believed to possibly be derived from the Nordic "Coupland"/Kaupaland which literally means 'bought-land' or territory. :)
