Sara Carter Bayes is interred in the Methodist Church cemetery in the tiny village of Maces Springs, Virginia (near Kingsport, Tennessee). Clinch Mountain, which is the subject of one of songs by the Carter Family, overlooks the area. Sara's first husband, A.P. (Alvin Pleasant) Carter is also interred in this cemetery, not far from Sarah's place. Both she and A.P. have rose-colored headstones. At least two of their children (Joe, Janette) also rest here.

But where she is is not sure - one source tells in the Mount Vernon Methodist Church graveyard in her home valley, Hiltons, Va. and another one tells in 95237 Lockeford, San Joaquin, CA - which would be more possible because of Coy's location - he's buried in 95247 Murphys, Calaveras, CA - But I think I've heard she's buried in Hiltons(Maces Springs). Although Sara was living in California at the time of her death, she is indeed buried at the Mount Vernon Methodist Church cemetery near Hiltons, VA. Two of her and A.P.'s children (Janette & Joe) rest beside her in adjoining graves. While A.P. is also buried there, his gravesite is several rows away.
