Sir Thomas More (1478 - 1535), the ill-fated Lord Chancellor of Henry VIII (1491 - 1547) was not actually assassinated. He was sentenced to death for refusing to agree to the divorce of the king from Queen Catherine of Aragon, and the king's subsequent marriage to Anne Boleyn.

Sir Thomas was executed on the 6 July 1535 by beheading, on Tower Hill, the Tower of London.
