One famous one is Sacajawea (woman). Sacajawea is best-known for traveling with the Lewis and Clark Expedition during their quest to the Pacific Ocean. She was able to assist them in many ways by having knowledge of the flora and fauna of the area, and her ability to converse with some of the tribes along the way.

Another Native American whose name begins with "s" is Sitting Bull. He is best known for leading the Native Americans against George Armstrong Custer in the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876. It is said that Sitting Bull had a premonition that he would be victorious in this battle. The soldiers were defeated, and Custer did not survive.
