The other 8 served out the term of a president who died in office and were re-elected for a second full term. There have been way more than two vice presidents that were elected president right after their vice presidential term. The first was John Adams, who was also the first vice president. The second was Thomas Jefferson, who was also the second vice president. The third was Martin Van Buren, who was Andrew Jackson's vice president, and then was elected president right after his vice presidential term. There are many more (including George Bush).
