Africa was invaded by the Allies during Operation Torch on November 7, 1942. Many nations in Africa were French colonies, and became part of the Axis empire after the fall of France in 1940. The Allies invaded Casablanca, Morocco, and pushed east through Tunisia to meet up with British forces pushing west from Egypt.
