in 1865 railways were introduced to Canada Hughes' book states that this was a six-wheeled tank engine, probably a 2-2-2WT built by E. B. Wilson, and of standard gauge. Some details of the wagons and the use of the locomotive are in Sir Proby T Cautley's "Report on the Ganges Canal Works" (3 volumes, 1860).
Railways
False. The Central Pacific was built from the west coast, specifically starting in Sacramento, California, while the Union Pacific was built from the east coast, starting in Omaha, Nebraska. The two railways eventually met at Promontory Summit, Utah, completing the First Transcontinental Railroad in 1869.
Roads were being built all over the country during the Gold Rush. Railroads were being built in the East. The earliest railroad in California was the Sacramento Valley Railroad; construction began in 1852, and service started in 1856. The first transcontinental railroad to California was begun in 1863 and opened in 1869, after the Gold Rush was over.
That's hard to say. While the Pacific spur of the TCR was built primarily by Chinese labor, the much longer eastern line was built by multiple generation Americans and recently arrived Irish immigrants.
