The Great Depression, when the Stock Market crashed. It affected just about everyone. People who were lower class, lost everything. Their money, their jobs, their lives, and a lot of the time, even their families. Middle class people, lost most of their money and their homes, and were moved down to lower class. The upper class howerver, wasn't affected so much. They still had their money and homes and families, but taxes were raised, making them lose some of their money. To a point, the Great Depression even affected other countries. There was a lot of racial discrimination against immigrants because American simply was not able to support itself. Many people believed that to get rid of the immigrants would be getting rid of the Depression. The Depression happened because there was a big uprise in the stockmarket. It was in a Bull phase, meaning it was steadily increasing. When the investors looked at the increase, they were like, "Oh, wait! It's going to crash soon, the numbers have been going up for too long!" So, then everyone withdrew their money. Since everyone had withdrawn their money, the market crashed. Thus starting the Great depression. FDR tried to help. He created the New Deal, offering plans that would get America out of the Depression. near the beginning, he even created a "Bank Holiday" which shut down every bank. This stopped people from withdrawing their money from even the banks, because banks were going down too. It slowed the Depression, but did not stop it. What a scary time here in the US. WWII ended up stopping the Great Depression. It created more jobs so that we could produce food, and supplies for the soldiers overseas. Once people had jobs, they had money. When they had money, they started to pull their lives back together. Thus ending the economic struggle known as, The Great Depression. Sorry, I know I ranted. I hope I helped though!

Once we finish this "recession" we will be calling the last few years the "Greater Depression".
