The Battle of the Bulge or 'Ardenne Offensive' (Belgium) was a last ditched operation mounted by the German Army against the US in December 1944. The battle was largely fought in the Ardenne forest in sub zero temperatures. Against all odds, US Paratroopers (101st) held off German armour and Artillery - at one stage being totally surrounded. With the help of General Pattons 3rd Army, the Germans were finally defeated with the road now wide open to Germany itself. Many would say that conditions were amongst the worst experienced by the allies in WW2.

ANSWER
