The yoyo was first used as a weapon in the Philippines. It was large, and was at the end of a long rope. Sharp edges were used to cut or scrape the enemy or prey. At some point, the evolved from a weapon to a toy. Later, a man named DF Duncan Sr. bought it from the Philippine immigrant, Pedro Flores. He patented the name "Yoyo" (meaning "come back" in the native language of the Philippines), and distributed the product throughout America.
