The Union. They were the ones who actually manufactured the Springfield Rifled Muskets (as they were known), and the Confederacy was only able to acquire them through capture, which limited their supply.
The US Civil War was our last war fought with muskets. The Civil War was a transitioning phase to metalic cartridges, that we still use today. When US Civil War soldiers fired their muskets/rifles there was no spent shell casing to eject from the weapon. Only a lead ball or minie bullet came out of the muzzle (minie bullet was shaped like today's bullet...long missile shaped). Some Spencer repeating rifles were used (the transitioning phase) in which spent copper shell cases were ejected from the weapons.
During the Civil War, the Minie ball was the military advance that contributed the most to the war's death toll. The Mino ball was a spin-stabilized rifle bullet that had a greater muzzle velocity and weight than a smoothbore bullet. Minie balls cut straight through the human body and shattered bones. Their spin meant that they were more accurate over larger distances. The Minie ball increased the deadliness of infantry soldiers, a fact that Civil War generals were slow to realize. They continued to use massed troop formations in combat even though the rifle and the Minie ball made them unnecessary, leading to heavy casualties in their battles.
Most kicking was done with a dropkick. The ball used in the 1920s had rounder tips and looked much like the ball used in rugby. The NFL changed the shape of the ball in 1934 to what it is today. The tips of the ball were made into more of a point. That was done to help the passing game, to make the ball more aerodynamic. That made dropkicking much more difficult and shortly afterwards it was completely out of the game, replaced by the placekick.
The game is based off of a British game called Rounders. They both were created in the mid 1800's. It was also called Town Ball. Base-Ball ( hyphenated ) was a common spelling during the Civil War.
The Union had more ships than the Confederacy. The greatest amount of these were used on blockade duty.
The Minie Ball haha i have been shot by one before i had to have my leg amputated. The Minie Ball was used in the Civil War and in a few other wars but it was mainly used in the Civil War. It is conelike with a hollow bottom and three or two rings depending on where it waz made.
The minie ball replaced the lead ball that was used in the American Revolution.
I think you're referring to the "minie ball" which was a French invention. It was one of the first spin-stabilized conical bullets to be used. The rifles used to shoot it had a rifled barrel to impart spin to the minie ball. Earlier muskets shot round balls and had smooth bores.
They used .58 caliber minie bullet's, lead slugs, and Thud Cannon's.
Rifles that used minie balls contributed to the high casualty rate in the Civil War. Rifles with minie balls could shoot farther and more accurately and could be reloaded faster than old-fashioned muskets. As a result, mounted charges and infantry assaults did not work as well. Defenders using rifles could shoot more of the attackers before they got close. As a result, mounted charges and infantry assaults did not work as well. Defenders using

Muskets were muzzle loading firearms- MOST with smooth bores. They used gunpowder poured own the barrel, and a lead ball that was pushed down the barrel with a ramrod. RIFLED muskets might use a round lead ball wrapped in a greased cloth patch, or a lead Minie Ball- but still required powder to be poured down the barrel. The powder was sometimes wrapped in thin paper tubes (cartridges) that could be bitten open, and powder dumped down the barrel. Check Wikipedia for the term Minie Ball for more information.
Minie balls, a type of conical bullet used in rifled muskets, significantly impacted the Civil War by increasing the lethality and accuracy of firearms. Their design allowed for greater range and more efficient loading, leading to devastating injuries and higher casualty rates on the battlefield. This advancement contributed to more deadly engagements, forcing military strategies to adapt to the increased firepower, ultimately influencing the war's tactics and outcomes. The widespread use of minie balls highlighted the brutal nature of the conflict and the need for improved medical care and battlefield logistics.
The standard rifle in the American Civil war fired a large (.69 caliber) slow, heavy, soft lead bullet. In some cases, they fired a large round lead ball, mixed with smaller buckshot (known as buck and ball) in others, a hollow based bullet, known as a Minie Ball. The combination of weight, slow speed, and very soft lead could shatter a bone in an unlucky shot.
Even though both sides used the same rifles, their bullets were slightly different in how they were made. The muzzle-loading rifles used a Minie ball that was a conical bullet with a hollow base. The outside of the base had rings molded into them by the bullet mold.In general the difference was the number of grooves at the base: 2 or 3. I forget which side had which number: believe the Confederate used the 2 grooves. Also, some of the Confederate bullets were made very crudely and some have been found that were more blunt with no grooves at all.
Technology took made many improvements during the Civil War. The guns went from smoothbore muskets to rifles that used minie balls. The Civil War also saw torpedoes, submarines and Gatling guns.
