Alonzo "Lonnie" Johnson was born February 8, 1899 and died June 16, 1970. He was born in New Orleans and studied piano, violin and guitar as a child.
He began playing in public in his father's band and in 1917 joined a tour of England. When he came home he found all his family except his brother James had died in the 1918 flu epidemic.
He was a brilliant blues guitarist and singer. He died in Toronto in 1970 after a road accident.
