Malcolm's white girlfriend was named Bea Caragulian who was called "Sophie" in the autobiography to protect her identity. She also had a sister named Joyce who was in the same ring of robbers. They did not see each other again after Malcolm went to prison.

update 2011...

I just found out his former girlfriend is still alive. Her name is Beatrice Bazarian who lives in California. She is almost 90. I found info on her at ancestry.com. Her maiden name was Caragulian. I don't know if anyone ever tried to interview her or seek her out, don't know if she declined. She probably doesn't want to be identified or want to known as being associated with Malcolm X.

Update 2013:

Beatrice Bazarian passed away last year. Her brother Leon and sister Joyce Berberian are both still living in Watertown, MA, where the Caragulian siblings were born. Beatrice's daughter Candy Feliz lives in California, and has three children and four grandchildren. Now that Bea is gone, it would be interesting if any of her surviving family members -- like her sister Joyce, who was part of Malcolm's "gang" -- can share any details about her years as Malcolm's girlfriend.

What does Malcolm X think is wrong with what Christians preach about heaven?

Malcolm X came to believe that Christians, especially those who championed segregation, promoted the subjugation of black people. The traditional white southern churches taught that segregation was necessary, and white supremacy was God's will; a black person who accepted a subordinate position would perhaps suffer on earth, but gain a heavenly reward. That outraged Malcolm X, who believed, as Louis Farrakhan did, that "the white man's heaven is the black man's hell." Malcolm X rejected Christian doctrine because he saw it as encouraging racism. If the only way a black person could get to heaven was by obediently accepting a subservient role, that seemed to him as if churches were preaching injustice and inequality. Thus, he said that Christianity was a "white man's religion," with a white hierarchy and no opportunity for the black man (or woman) to be treated as an equal.

Why did Elijah Muhammad suspend Malcolm X from the Black Muslim movement?

Elijah Muhammad felt Malcolm overstepped his boundaries and misrepresented the Muslim faith when he spoke out after JFK was shot. He made a statement about JFK and the white race getting what they deserved.
