Peter Anthony Allen and Gwynne ("Ginger") Owen Evans were accomplices in the April 7, 1964 beating death and robbery of John Alan West, a 53-year-old laundry van driver from Workington, Cumbria, England. One of the men left a raincoat and some personal papers at the scene of the crime, and both were apprehended within 48 hours.

Allen and Evans were tried together at Manchester Crown Court in June 1964, found guilty of capital murder, and sentenced to death by hanging.

Neither man can be considered the last person to die of the death penalty in the UK, as the government carefully timed their executions to occur simultaneously. Allen was hanged at Walton Prison in Liverpool, Evans at Strangeways Prison, in Manchester, at 8:00 am August 13, 1964.
