The Kiowas had always prized tradition and ceremony. They kept histories of their travels and painted pictures on buffalo hides to record important events in their lives. Every season, the Kiowas held ceremonies and festivals. The most important event was the annual sun dance in June. The Kiowas believed that honoring the sun would bring happiness, plentiful buffalo, and victory in war.
