The Allied armies, coming from both the East (Russians) and the West (British Canadians Poles Americans) forced the Germans to stop fighting and surrender their armies.

The camps were discovered, and the inmates were liberated. Most of them were too sick to go anywhere for a few months. They needed to be fed and given medical treatment. Many died despite the best efforts of the Allies, due to their advanced state of starvation.

The last major action (deportation) took place at the same time as the Normandy Landings, the last gassings stopped six months before the Nazis surrendered, most phases of the Holocaust had been shut down and the evidence of their existence were being expunged by the time the Soviets got to the camps. The Death Marches were not stopped by the advancing allies, by the time the allies reached the camps most of the guards had left and tried to hide themselves within the army.

there were people in charge, there were people who did more killing than others, there were also people who were more cruel than others, but personally i feel that one cannot take away responsibility from the person who informed on their neighbour, knowing that someone else would do the killing.
