According to The Bible, Moses wrote Genesis, the first book of the Bible. As far as physically being written down, it was probably some un-named Jewish Scribe during the time of Saul, David, or Solomon.

According to historical data, what is referred to as the ("Christian") Bible (or "book" from the Latin Greek word byblio) came about from being transcribed from various languages across the span of perhaps approximately 1,689 years from and into a number of languages- namely from Aramaic and Hebrew. What contemporary Christians and Catholics (not to be confused with universalists) read from is a bible that might be based off of the codex written and compiled under the supervision of Constantine and the Council of Nicaea during 325 CE. However this is not confirmable as the majority of the original codex is missing.

There are however the Dead Sea Scrolls, which is technically the oldest version of the "Bible's" Old Testament, and contains more books than the Old Testament read from today with particularly different wording here and there. The Dead Sea Scrolls are a collection of Hebrew books transcribed at separate intervals between 250 BCE and 65 CE. The Dead Sea Scrolls are however not recognized by the Roman Catholic (not to be confused with universalist: catholicus) Church as canonized, which is the same for many other followers of the "Bible."

Moreover, it is very important to note for the historical record that there were many other books of different proto-Christian communities that were the equivalent of different "Bibles," most of which were suppressed, or entirely disappeared, during the Middle Ages. One surviving such book was the Gnostic Bible, commonly referred to as the Nag Hammadi Scrolls or Codex which is an expansion of an earlier faith in Egypt that began as early as 200 BCE.
