The Soviets ended the blockade of West Berlin in 1949 because they realized it was not achieving their goal of forcing the Western Allies out of the city. The blockade had led to the Berlin Airlift, where the Allies supplied West Berlin by air, showing the Soviets that their blockade was ineffective.
The two western powers flew supplies over the blockade into West Berlin. This act is commonly called the BERLIN AIRLIFT. The Soviet Union revered policy after a year when the Soviets ended the blockade and pemited land-transport of goods to West Berlin.

The Berlin Blockade (Airlift) lasted from June 1948 till May 1949. After the end of the blockade the allies continued to airlift essentials into West Berlin to order to have a stockpile, just in case the blockade was renewed (which didn't happen).

The Berlin AirliftWhen Germany was divided into zones at the end of World War 2, Berlin was divided into four sectors - one Soviet, one American, one British and one French. Geographically, Berlin was situated deep inside the Soviet Zone of Germany. In June 1948, following various disagreements between the West and the Soviet Union, Stalin had all surface links between West Berlin and the western zones of Germany cut. West Berlin (with a population of about two million) was in effect placed under a siege which is usually referred to as the Berlin Blockade. The point of the blockade was to try to force the Western countries out of Berlin. (The immediate trigger was the introduction of the new currency, the Deutsche Mark, in West Berlin as well as West Germany). Much to the surprise of the Germans, the West responded by supplying West Berlin by air. It was a huge undertaking and a Western plane took off or landed every 30-40 seconds, round the clock. In the winter of 1948-49 conditions became very difficult as all coal for the electricity generating stations had to be flown in. (Please bear in mind that at the time military transport planes were much smaller than now). The blockade lasted till May 1949.AnswerThe relief provided by air by America, Britain and France to West Berlin when it was blockaded by Stalin's Soviet Union in 1948-49. It lasted from 24 June 1948 to 30 September 1949, continuing even after the Soviet Union abandoned the blockade in May 1949, to enable a stockpile of three monthe supplies in case the Soviets attempted another blockade.

The Western powers airlifted supplies to Berlin, until the Soviets ended the blockade in 1949.
The Berlin airlift was good and successful idea by the West, due to the fact that they got all the supplies they needed from the other side to the west, without any problem. However, the Berlin Blockade was not a good idea at all. As the Soviets, at the end had lost and free the road and train connection between west and East.
If you are talking about the Berlin Blockade it came long before the Berlin wall was built. The famous Berlin Blockade began in June 1948 and didn't end until May 1949. The Berlin Blockade was the result of the Soviets blocking all roads between West Berlin and West Germany, meaning there was no supply of food to West Berlin. This led to the Berlin Airlift where the western powers dropped food parcels into West Berlin. The Berlin Wall wasn't built until 1961,due to the fact that many East Berliners were escaping to West Berlin due to the better living conditions in the west. Although this had been going on for years. In the day before the wall was erected 5000 people fled East Berlin. The first wire version of the wall was built overnight and separated east and West Berlin for 29 years until it was torn down in 1989. I hope this helps.

The division of Germany and of Berlin was originally meant to be temporary. In 1947, Western leaders began planning for the creation of an independent democratic German nation. They also planned to establish a democratic government in West Berlin, which was deep inside the Soviet zone. In June 1948, the Soviets blocked off all land, rail, and water routes into West Berlin. As a result, Berlin's 2 million residents were cut off from receiving vital supplies. The Soviets hoped this blockade would force the West to leave Berlin. Western leaders then organized the Berlin airlift, a massive effort to supply West Berlin by air. This turned out to be a success, and the Soviets called off the blockade of Berlin in May 1949. Within days of the end of this crisis, the Federal Republic of Germany, commonly called West Germany was formed. A few months later, the Soviet controlled area became the German Democratic Republic, or East Germany.

The U.S response to the Soviet blockade was sending srms to Berlin by planes, therefor allowing them to fight back. The United States along with Britain and other countries send food, supplies, etc. They had continued this for about a year.

which blockade? Berlin blockade? if you mean the Berlin blockade... no- the Russians got bored and called it off because they couldn't stop the allies from flying supplies over the blocked roads and railways.
