Consider where the ports are in Russia. The Far East is thousands of miles from the main fighting zones, and covered by the Japanese navy. The Black Sea is blocked by Turkey. The Baltic can only be entered by passing within 10 miles of German-occupied Denmark. Such supplies as did get through were taken through the North Atlantic to Murmansk or Archangel, which involved passing German-occupied Norway. The toll on ships and men on this passage was horrible, due as much to the climatic conditions as to the U-boats and bombers. Escorts had to be big ships, both because of the sea conditions and the presence of German battleships; and there were never enough big ships to go round.
The major goal of the Gallipoli Campaign was to occupy the Ottoman-controlled Dardanelles Straits. If the Allies had the Straits, they would have a route to the Russian ports on the Black Sea and would be able to supply their isolated ally.
The British implemented a naval blockade to restrict supplies and reinforcements from reaching the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. By controlling key ports and waterways, they aimed to cut off essential resources and support from both the colonies and foreign allies. Additionally, British forces conducted raids and patrols to intercept supply lines and disrupt communication between the colonies. This strategy was designed to weaken the Continental Army's capabilities and diminish their chances of success.
Spain was nominally an American ally but did not play a major role in the war. Spain traded with America through their island possessions in the Caribbean and ports in Florida and the Gulf Coast.
They sent supplies and, after the victory at Saratoga, sent military support. France also blocked the British Ports of supplies forcing the British to eventually surrender due to starvation.
Blockades are efforts to prevent ships from bringing goods to ports. They are often used during wartime to restrict the enemy's access to resources and supplies. By using naval forces to control maritime routes, a blockade aims to weaken the opponent's economy and military capabilities.
american troops used Russia as a base to guard important allied ports
We were getting less weapons. We were not getting them too much anyway.

U.S. troops were needed to guard Pacific and Artic ports for the Allies.
The Allies desperately needed permanent docks and ways to land major supplies. By a week after D-Day the beaches were swamped with tons of supplies and vehicles being landed. Even their Mulberry harbours were unable to cope, then there was a huge storm in late June which severely damaged these Mulberry's. Capturing large ports in Belgium and Holland was the only answer.
There were no ports on D-Day, the Allies landed on the beaches and built floating ports later in the month.
