Why did Ferdinand Magellan voyage?

Queen Isabella of Spain was dear cousins and very close with Ferdinand Magellen. She was very trustworthy of him and thought that if any one could find new lands that it would be him. Magellan set off on his explorations in hope to find new lands but died in a war in the Phillipines for there land

Ferdinand Magellan sailed for Spain because the Spanish government was willing to fund him. Magellan's native Portugal believed that the best way to get to East Asia was by traveling around Africa and would not sponsor a trip westbound as he proposed. However, the Spaniards disagreed with the Portuguese government and, accordingly, funded Magellan's exploration to find a way to the Pacific around South America.
