Tostig Godwinson (Harold, the King of England's brother) tried to invade England alongside Hadrada, but they were both defeated and the English were victorious. Harald Hardraada was struck in the throat by an arrow and killed early in the battle in a state of berserkgang. He was not wearing amour.

The first battle in 1066 was the "Battle of Stamford Bridge", between Harold Godwinson and Harold Hardrada, a Viking invader. Harold Godwinson won the battle and then marched south with his army to meet William Duke of Normandy in the famous The second was the "Battle of Hastings". William triumphed in the battle and he was later that year, on Christmas day 1066, crowded King of England.
Harald claimed that he had a right to the English throne. He was related to King Canute, the King of England from 1016-1032. Harald said this gave him every right to invade England.
As William was waiting to invade from Normandy, Harald Hardrada and Tostig, (King Harolds' brother), invaded on the northeast coast, attacked York and beat a locally raised army. King Harold had to rush northwards almost 250 miles with his bodyguard, raise another army and attack the Norse invaders at Stamford Bridge east of York; all of this without alerting the enemy. After the Norse army were beaten, word came of the expected invasion from Normandy, so Harold had to ride south with his bodyguard and pick up another army to fight William near Hastings. The rest is history.
