Hitler wanted the German people to believe he was completely committed to Germany's interests, without distraction; that he was a "superman" who did not need the things other men did, such as a wife. He wanted people to think he was married to Germany. And, Eva was much younger than he was, and perhaps not too bright. He may not have been entirely faithful. Geobbels, who as head of the Propaganda Ministry had control over the German film industry, and was called by German starlets "The Beast of Bebelsburg" (a Berlin suburb; Germany's Hollywood). Goebbels used to drop by with half a dozen young actresses, and Eva would be hustled off upstairs. One of these actresses related how Hitler once tried to impress them by demonstrating how long he could hold his arm up in the Nazi salute. What a man!
