In world war two one side wanted to have more land and resources and extend their type of government to others and the other side wanted to keep their land and resources and maintain their form of government. (eg. in Europe the Germans were for a new social order and the English for "King and Country" while in the Pacific theater the Japanese were for "King and Country" and the Americans for a new social order. As to why people fight in the wars, each side claims they are right and the war is justified. The people are convinced or ordered to fight by their governments and do so for patriotism, need for work, or to protect themselves from invading armies.
