The campaign for the US Presidency in 1964 was between Democrat President Lyndon Johnson and Republican candidate Senator Barry Goldwater. Although the South had been traditionally a Democrat stronghold for decades after the US Civil War, it also had a large part of the voting population leaning to the conservative side of American politics.
To many Southerners, the conservatism of Barry Goldwater seemed more in line with their ideas than did the more liberal President Johnson. So even though Johnson was a Texan, he did not command the full support of some Southern States who voted for the more conservative Goldwater.
Poll taxes and literacy tests
The Virginia Plan was a plan purposed by Virginia for a bicameral legislative branch. Other states, some Southern, were opposed to this because of the amount of voters each state would get.
When southern delegates consented to some commercial regulations, northern states compromised by agreeing to limit federal control over certain aspects of trade and navigation. This included allowing the continuation of the slave trade for a specified period and not imposing export duties on goods, which were crucial for southern economies. Additionally, northern states accepted a more favorable stance on tariffs that protected southern agricultural interests. This compromise aimed to maintain the Union and address the economic disparities between the regions.

I doubt it. It's always hard to say what a person from the past would think of a person from the present, but based on Goldwater's beliefs, as well as interviews he gave, we could safely say the two men would have been political adversaries. Senator Goldwater would have disagreed with President Obama on a number of issues, especially since during the early part of his career, Mr. Goldwater was a very conservative Republican, while Mr. Obama was more of a centrist Democrat. But in the latter part of his career, Mr. Goldwater became more of a libertarian, and there are actually some issues on which the two men would have agreed. There is no evidence, contrary to what you might hear on political talk shows, that Mr. Goldwater would have "despised" anyone, including Barack Obama. In fact, Goldwater, was at one time considered extreme by not just Democrats but by many in his own Republican party; today, his views would place him somewhere in the moderate part of the spectrum.
