Due to ethnic cleansing & forced removal the Lenape today are spread across the United States and Canada, with concentrations along their trail of tears from their Ehenta Wehikiankw or "Old Homeland" all the way to Oklahoma. Many jumped off the trail of tears to settle along the way. Some were also rescued by the Moravians of Bethlehem, Pa and taken to Ontario Canada where there is today a "Delaware" reservation at Moraviantown. After New Jersey colonists took over Lenape lands, the indigenous Lenape people faced significant displacement and loss of their territory. The encroachment led to conflicts and treaties that were often unfavorable to the Lenape, resulting in their gradual removal from their ancestral lands. This shift not only disrupted their traditional way of life but also initiated a broader trend of colonization that would affect many Native American tribes in the region. Ultimately, the Lenape were forced to relocate to areas further west, significantly diminishing their population and cultural presence in New Jersey.
