They didn't stay in Cape Cod because the waters were too shallow for ships to come and go. They settled in Plymouth, which is in present day Massachusetts.
The Pilgrims landed near what is now called Cape Cod rather than Virginia as planned because harsh storms rattled The Mayflower off course and back in the 1600's there weren't many maps to tell you your location.
I hope this helps you people. the pilgrims originally landed in Provincetown, Cape Cod, not Plymouth.

Yes, the Pilgrims first landed on the very tip of the cape (Provinctown) before moving on to Plymouth.
The pilgrims landed on Ptown, but the soil was terrible for farming and it just wasn't a great place to live (for example the island that used to be in the middel of Cape Cod bay) so they went to Plymouth. so they didnt really live on cape Cod.
