As with most Western cultures, the patriarchal power structure ensured that women were inferior and not entitled to the same rights as men.
Some of the arguments employed by anti-suffragists include:

Women only gained the right to petition for divorce in Western countries in the late 1800s and early 1900s. There are still a number of countries where women do not have the right to petition their husbands for divorce and must wait for him to do so.

There were not many work related roles for women in the 1900s. Most women were homemakers while others were teachers, maids, nurses, and a very few doctors.
