The main rotor produces lift by re-directing the flow of air downward. Due to the torque created from spinning the main rotor, with just the main rotor the helicopter's fuselage (body) would rotate the opposite way until it reached a speed which was equal and opposite the torque/resistance.

The tail rotor counteracts the torque on the main rotor by creating a similar re-direction of air. Therefore torque turns the aircraft one way and the tail rotors thrust turns it the other. To turn the opposite way as the blades rotate you simpily remove the tail rotor thrust.

All helicopters need some means of generating this counter-force. There is a "Notar" (No Tail Rotor) which uses the Coanda effect to produce the counter-force.

Which helicopter hovers the longest the one with the long propellers or the short propellers?

The Helicopter with the long propellers creates more list and has to do less rotations, and use less power than the one with short proplellers. Therefore Helicopter with the long propellers will hover and stay in air longer than the one with short propellers.

Does short propellers fly longer or long propellers on a helicopter?

it depends on the engine and the shape of the blade.

Why does helicopter have propeller and aeroplane not?

Aircraft do have propellers , unless they are jets.

What are the two small propellers on a helicopter?

Oh, dude, those little spinny things on a helicopter are called the tail rotor and the main rotor. The tail rotor helps the helicopter not spin out of control, and the main rotor is like the big boss that actually lifts the whole thing up. So yeah, those propellers are pretty important for not crashing and stuff.

How many Decibels does a helicopter make?

For a helicopter to be stable as it flies it must have at least two propellers. why?

Helicopters require at least two propellers to achieve stability through a concept known as "counter-torque". The main rotor produces torque that would rotate the body of the helicopter in the opposite direction. The tail rotor or fenestron is used to counteract this torque, providing stability by keeping the helicopter from spinning uncontrollably.

Why do helicopters have propellers for kids?

They do not have propellors for kids. The propellors make the helicopter fly straight
