The cities of eygpt were placed in strategic points for economic and resources. The territory at it's height stretched from just below what is now jeruslum down to southern Egypt (present), and a bit farther. The reason it was shaped so oddly was due to the fact that they built cities along the Nile river in order to irrigate their rampant and use the waterway as a trade route. Beacuse of the predictable yearly Nile flooding they were assured that they would have crops to harvest Avery season. I hope that helps, I am taking a class on them now.
