THERE ARE MANY REASONS:

  • He lost valuable men, including housecarls (most of his army was made up of farmers etc, housecarls are the trained soldiers in proper armer) when he went to fight Hardrada in the North, 200 miles away!
  • He deafeated Hardrada and then found out that William the 1st of Normandy had landed just outside Dover.
  • He then had to march another 250 miles down South- this tired his army out- one of his mistakes was not to rest them though he had many chances. also he was a noddy for wanting to be king lol!:)
