Well, General Custer was known as a "brash" commander, who would lead his men, and himself, into battle not thinking things through. When Custer led his forces, along with Norville Churchills, in the Battle of Gettysburg (not sure if I spelled tht right!) at Hunterstown, he rushed forward on his wounded horse and fell right at the feet of the enemy. Luckily, Churchill rushed to his aid and was rescued before he could be shot at. But of course, this was only one of his most brash moments. He is most well known as a failure in the Battle of Little Bighorn. Here, he made a stupid military mistake by cutting his cavalry into 2 groups of about 200. The Indians took there chance and pretty much slaughtered there troops (the only US Survivor of that battle was one of the cavalries horses, but i can't seem to remember my source!).
