Pearl Harbor marked the entry of the United States into World War Two and thus meant the major industrial nation of western nations would put all its resources into defeating Germany (Nazism) and The Empire of Japan. The entry of the USA into WWII is often seen as the point in history whereupon America would become the first "super power" on Earth. The USA would eventually develop the atomic bomb used to end the war against Japan and develop technoligies that would propel the U.S. economy for decades. In addtion, the space age would be created after German scientists, at war's end, would be brought to the USA and eventually compete with the Soviet Union in the race to land men on the Moon.

Although some historians may say that without Pearl Harbor being attacked the Untied States might never have entered WWII in reality America would have likely been propelled into the war eventually due to both Japan's and Nazi Germany's designs to "rule the world" through totalitarian governments.

Finally, the sinking of many of the U.S. Navy battleships boosted the development of aircraft carrier dominance as the leading battle or war strategy of total air superiority necessary to win any war (other than nuclear). A military strategy that is still considered valid today.
