Usually a meeting of the minds of people who are all able to contribute intelligently on a particular subject. For instance, if the Chamber of Commerce held a round table discussion on the subject of sales tax, they would have people from the retail industry, maybe some bankers, local tax folks and perhaps a county or state representative. It doesn't usually get heated (it's not supposed to) and people just kick around ideas.

The Romans laid down on a couch and rested on their left elbow, while picking and eating food with their right. There were three couches in a triclinium (a Roman dining room) that surrounded a small round table. Each couch had place for three people.

There are several Round Table Conferences each year and I am assuming from the Hindi name (gol = round, mej = table, sammelan = meeting, conference) that the question refers to the conferences arranged by the British Government to discuss constitutional reform in India during 1930-32.See the attached link for details of participants in the Three Round Table Conferences. There are several Round Table Conferences each year and I am assuming from the Hindi name (gol = round, mej = table, sammelan = meeting, conference) that the question refers to the conferences arranged by the British Government to discuss constitutional reform in India during 1930-32.See the attached link for details of participants in the Three Round Table Conferences.

three knights of the round table
The three Round Table Conferences held between 1930 and 1932 aimed to discuss constitutional reforms in India and address the political deadlock between British authorities and Indian leaders. They were convened to explore the possibility of increasing Indian participation in governance and to address the demands of various Indian political groups, including the Indian National Congress and the Muslim League. The conferences ultimately sought to find a compromise that would lead to a constitutional framework suitable for India's future. However, they achieved limited success due to deep divisions among Indian representatives and the British government's reluctance to grant substantial reforms.
Sir Agha Khan from the Muslim league was the only member who attended all three round table conferences of 1930-1932. Mathma Gandhi did not attend the first and third conference, and Jinnah was absent from the third conference. Even the head of the conference was different in the third conference.
