John Cabot (or Giovanni Caboto) was a venitian navigator of genoese origin. He was asked by Henry VII of England to mount an expedition to the North-West passage and the he established Cape Breton in 1497. His son Sebastian accompanied him on his voyages and during their service for the king Charles Quint they found the Rio de la Plata.
