The Albany Plan of Union, proposed by Benjamin Franklin in 1754, was unacceptable to the colonies primarily because it threatened their individual autonomy and control. Many colonial leaders were hesitant to cede any power to a central authority, fearing it would undermine their independence and local governance. Additionally, the plan required collective taxation and military cooperation, which some colonies were unwilling to commit to, preferring to handle their affairs independently. Ultimately, the lack of unity and differing priorities among the colonies led to its rejection.
