  • December 1917, the Bolsheviks signed an armistice with Germany, Austro-Hungary, the Ottomans, & Bulgaria, the Central Powers, temporarily ending the war for Russia.
  • February 1918 fighting resumes.
  • 3 March 1918, the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk is signed, ending the war.
  • 1917-1923 the Soviets cement their power during the Russian Civil War.
  • On 28 December 1922 the Treaty of Creation of the USSR is signed. Vladimir Lenin is the first Supreme Soviet (Leader of the USSR), supported by his number one henchman, Joseph Stalin (born Ioseb Besarionis dze Jughashvili - "Joseph" is the westernized version of Ioseb, and "Stalin" was adapted from the Russian word "stal" meaning "steel' intending to mean "man of steel."
  • The Soviet Union at that time began as a union by treaty of the Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic(Russia's new title after the revolution), Ukraine, Belorussia and the Transcausus Federation (Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan).
