Why were Jews sent to Aushwitz?

People were sent to Auschwitz to be killed there - either by being worked to death on grossly insufficient food or by gassing.

The victims were mainly Jews. Also, gypsies were sent, homosexuals, some Soviet prisoners of war and Communists as Nazi Germany was a Fascist country. They were all sent there to be killed.

Other groups such a homosexuals, political opponents and those with disabilities were sent as well.

The Holocaust was a kind of mass insanity. Hitler appealed to people's worst nature, by convincing them that they could blame all their problems on Jews, and then murder all the Jews and steal their property, thus appealing both to a sense of irresponsibility and greed, along with xenophobia - people easily fear and distrust anyone different from themselves, and that was the crime of the Jews, to retain their own cultural identity as being different from an otherwise uniformly Christian Europe (today, of course, Europe is no longer uniformly Christian, having had a great deal of Muslim Immigration, but in the early 20th century that hadn't happened yet).

I don't think it was 'mass insanity'. That term suggests that vast numbers of people were involved in the killings (which was not the case). The term also medicalizes evil.

Jews were sent to concentration camps during the holocaust to be killed by a gas room, being shot, or worked to death. The Jews had to wear the yellow star on their close. The Jews were creamated after death.
