Hellenistic comes from Hellas a.k.a Greece. Historians around the world believe that when Alexander with the other greek cities went against the Persians and the other countries in the east, he brought their advanced greek civilization, culture and language. This is also the reason that the new testimony was written in greek. This is why those kingdoms were called Hellenistic as well as the whole era.
