Considering the Lewis and Clark expedition, the fact that they were part of a scientific expedition was extremely important, especially during the Age of Enlightenment. The new knowledge they obtained about the Northwest's geography, Natural Resources, and native inhabitants sparked American interest in the west, and strengthened the nation's claim to the area. It also gave Americans a sense of pride at a time when they badly needed symbols of national triumph. Americans at this time realized that their new nation was still very much divided and relatively weak and Lewis and Clark's adventure offered Americans proof that the men of their nation could accomplish great deeds amidst enormous hardships.
Also spread was the idea of 'Manifest Destiny' as Americans increasingly assumed a continental destiny. This opened many door for poor families to go out and prosper throughout the late nineteenth century. However this also led to many Native Americans and earlier Hispanic settlers to be dispossessed, along with the great number of buffalo that Lewis and Clark themselves saw and were amazed by.

Meredith Lewis and William Clark were pivotal figures in westward expansion due to their leadership of the Lewis and Clark Expedition from 1804 to 1806. Commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson, their journey sought to explore the newly acquired Louisiana Territory, establish trade routes, and document the region's geography and indigenous cultures. Their detailed maps and reports significantly contributed to American knowledge of the West, encouraging further exploration and settlement. This expedition ultimately laid the groundwork for the westward movement that characterized the early 19th century.

Meriwether Lewis and William Clark set out on an expedition to find the end of the new American nation. They were the original pioneers of the west, and they were among the first of the American settlers to see the Pacific Ocean. When they finally reached it, they wrote the famous words: "Ocian in view O! The Joy!" They basically showed to the rest of America that there was much more to be seen of this great nation, and thus inspired a Westward Expansion movement that would span the duration of the next century.
Lewis and Clark significantly impacted westward movement by providing crucial information about the geography, resources, and Native American tribes of the western territories. Their expedition, commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson, mapped routes and documented the natural landscape, which encouraged settlers to move westward. The knowledge gained from their journey helped to foster the idea of Manifest Destiny and facilitated the expansion of the United States into the Pacific Northwest. Their findings laid the groundwork for future exploration and settlement in the region.
