Rome Is Where Gladiators Fight
In ancient times, heavily armed foot soldiers were called heavy infantry. This term is often used to describe the soldiers in the armies of Alexander the great.
They were called phalanx, often called greekers.
The five main types of gladiators were: Murmillo: Armed with a sword and shield, often depicted with a fish crest on their helmet, they fought against other types of gladiators. Thraex: Known for their curved sword (sica) and a small shield, they were inspired by Thracian warriors and often fought against murmillos. Retiarius: Equipped with a net, trident, and dagger, they employed agility and strategy to ensnare opponents, often facing heavily armored gladiators. Secutor: Heavily armored with a smooth helmet and a short sword, they were designed to combat retiarii, focusing on offense and defense. Provocator: Similar to the secutor but with a different helmet and more armor, they fought against other heavily armed gladiators, often within the arena's spectacle.

They weiled a curved short sword, a sica, and a small round shield, a parma.
